The Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Adel Abdulhamza Al-Bdeewy, in the presence of the Head of the Media and Government Communication Unit, Assist. Lec. Baraa Aamer Al-Abbasi received a delegation from Al-Ayn Social Care Foundation. The meeting is in line with the college’s approach to expand its outreach to civil society institutions and reinforce its pioneering role in supporting humanitarian initiatives with sustainable impact.

The visit was part of the college’s commitment to the concept of “the university in service of society.” The Dean emphasized establishing effective communication channels with humanitarian institutions to enhance the academic community’s support for vulnerable groups and to instill a culture of social responsibility among students. The meeting served as a forum for discussion, fostering chances for collaboration and engaging students in volunteer projects. These initiatives highlighted the humanitarian aspects of political science and its practical relevance.

The delegation offered a detailed account of the foundation’s humanitarian work and community programs, with a special focus on its efforts to support orphans. Over the years, their services have touched the lives of more than 225,000 orphans and assisted cancer patients and individuals with kidney failure, while also emphasizing key accomplishments, such as establishing 16 integrated service centers for orphans named “Shining Stars” across several Iraqi provinces and expanding the foundation internationally to support orphans outside Iraq.

The college, in turn, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting humanitarian projects aligned with its principles. An agreement was also reached to support the “Basmat Khair 10” campaign for universities, by promoting it among faculty and students to strengthen the college’s presence in humanitarian activities and encourage students to practice their social roles with awareness and responsibility.

The Dean emphasized that the College of Political Science views humanitarian endeavours as a pragmatic extension of the social justice and human rights principles outlined in its educational framework. He observed that student awareness remains incomplete unless they are actively engaged in initiatives that promote solidarity and compassion, thereby integrating academic knowledge with societal realities. This strategy aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 1 (No Poverty), 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through these collaborative efforts, the college reiterates its developmental mission alongside its academic objectives. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Dean was presented with a symbolic gift from the delegation of the Al-Ayn Foundation in recognition of his contributions to supporting humanitarian initiatives. This act signified mutual respect and reaffirmed ongoing cooperation between the College of Political Science and community organizations to promote public welfare and sustainable development.
