The Department of Political Thought at the College of Political Science – University of Baghdad hosts, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM in Dr. Jihad Al-Hasani Hall, a scientific symposium entitled “Child Rights in Iraq Between Local Norms and International Laws,” with the active participation of several faculty members. The symposium examines the alignment of Iraqi legislation with international standards, particularly the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). It emphasizes the protection of children’s rights within educational, health, and social sectors, while identifying existing legislative gaps and proposing remedies that respect the cultural and social specificities of Iraqi society. The symposium concludes with a set of pivotal recommendations, most notably: Strengthening the national legislative framework for child protection٫ developing monitoring and follow-up mechanisms, increasing community awareness regarding children’s rights, aligning national policies with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), supporting education, health, and gender equality, integrating child rights into the pillars of the Iraqi National Security Strategy to foster social stability and comprehensive development. In the closing session, participants stress the necessity of integrating legislative, executive, and academic efforts to ensure effective and sustainable protection for child rights in Iraq
