The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Political Science, University of Baghdad, organized a training course entitled “Publishing in Peer-Reviewed Scientific Journals.” The course was held in the postgraduate studies halls on the second floor from Sunday, December 7, 2025, to Wednesday, December 10, 2025, with the participation of several faculty members and staff.

The course aimed to develop participants’ skills in high-quality scientific publishing in peer-reviewed journals by introducing them to the principles and requirements of academic publishing, proper scientific documentation methods, and mechanisms for selecting appropriate journals from international databases. This will contribute to increasing publication rates and enhancing the college’s presence in international databases.

The course curriculum comprised four training days. The first day provided an introduction to scientific publishing in peer-reviewed journals, while the second day focused on methods for documenting research sources. The third day addressed the importance of scientific publishing and its role in strengthening academic research, and the fourth day covered the process of searching for indexed journals in international databases and their publication requirements. The course also provided an opportunity for discussion and the exchange of experiences among participants, highlighting the most significant challenges facing researchers and how to overcome them.

The course concluded with several recommendations, most notably the development of annual scientific publishing plans within the college’s departments, the promotion of internationally recognized scientific documentation practices, the provision of ongoing technical support to assist researchers in selecting reputable journals and avoiding predatory journals, and the creation of an updated database of accredited scientific journals and making it accessible to faculty and staff to support future publication plans.
