The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Political Science, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop titled “Climate Action as the Foundation of a Healthy Environment” on Sunday, November 16th, 2025. The event took place in Al-Huriyya Hall with the participation of the College’s instructors.
The workshop aimed to promote awareness of the role of climate action in protecting public health, reducing the risks of pollution and heat waves, and enabling the college’s staff to adopt sustainable practices on campus. Many points were discussed, including air quality and emission reduction, mechanisms of waste management, the safe handling of chemical materials, rationalization of energy and water consumption, and raising environmental awareness and promoting students’ in the community’s green initiatives.
The workshop also connected its content to the main reference frameworks, especially the sustainable development targets, (Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being), and (Goal #13th: Climate Action), in addition to its agreement with two principles (Environmental Governance) and (Community Health) of the Iraqi National Security Strategy 2025-2030.
The workshop concluded by confirming the importance of incorporating environmental and health considerations in the college’s institutional policies and supporting student initiatives aimed to create a more sustainable academic environment
