As part of its awareness activities, the Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Political Science – University of Baghdad organized a guidance session for third-year students entitled “Participation in Elections: A National Responsibility and a Democratic Duty.” The activity aimed to strengthen students’ political awareness and promote a culture of positive participation in the electoral process.

The session included an open discussion on the importance of participating in elections as a constitutional right and a fundamental means of expressing the popular will, as well as the role of youth in choosing their representatives and contributing to building Iraq’s democratic future.

During the meeting, the unit emphasized that youth abstention from participation weakens the democratic experience, whereas their awareness and active involvement strengthen stability and genuine reform. This aligns with Goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), which calls for supporting democratic institutions and fostering active community participation
