The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad held a public discussion on Sunday, October 19, 2025, for the doctoral dissertation submitted by the student Gabriel Hussein Ali Al-Zibari, entitled:
“The Role of Kurdish Political Leadership in Achieving Transitional Justice and National Reconciliation in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq,” at Al-Hurriya Hall in the College.
The examination committee was composed of:

The dissertation aims to analyze the role of Kurdish political leadership in building a system of transitional justice and promoting national reconciliation, through examining the policies and mechanisms adopted to compensate victims, restore rights, uncover the truth, and ensure non-recurrence of violations. The study also addressed the legal and institutional frameworks adopted by the Kurdistan Region in managing this file, and the extent of their contribution to achieving political and social stability.
The findings indicated that the Kurdish political leadership has achieved tangible progress in the path of national reconciliation; however, sustaining transitional justice requires further efforts to institutionalize transparency and enhance societal participation.
At the conclusion of the defense, the dissertation was awarded a grade of “Very Good.”
