College of Political Science Discusses Doctoral Dissertation Examining Security and Peace in Contemporary Chinese Political Thought
On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad witnesses the dissertation defense of doctoral student Farah Ahmed Abdul-Karim, titled «Security and Peace in Contemporary Chinese Political Thought», in Al-Hurriya Hall at the college.
The dissertation comprises four chapters, addressing the study of security and peace in contemporary Chinese political thought as the product of interaction between China’s cultural and philosophical heritage and modern political ideologies and transformations. It further examines their intellectual and political foundations, as well as their capacity to address internal and external challenges and contribute to achieving global security and peace.
The study concludes that the Chinese vision rests on a comprehensive concept of security that links development, stability, sovereignty, shared security, cultural dialogue, and a shared future for humanity. It extends beyond military security to encompass political, economic, social, cultural, and technological dimensions, emphasizing that the future of this vision depends on China’s ability to align its intellectual foundations with its political practices, thereby enhancing its contribution to building a more pluralistic international order.

The dissertation comes within the context of researching the intellectual and political transformations taking place in contemporary China, as well as studying its perceptions of security and peace and their implications for the international system.
At the conclusion of the defense, and following the completion of all scientific defense requirements, the dissertation is approved with a grade of “Very Good.”
