As part of the academic collaboration among the colleges of the University of Baghdad, the Women’s Affairs Unit and the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Political Science, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Islamic Sciences, organized an awareness workshop titled “The Role of Justice in Promoting Human Rights Principles” on Thursday, October 16, 2025, held at Al-Hurriya Hall. The event was attended by a number of faculty members and administrative staff from both colleges.

The workshop commenced with a speech by lecturer Dr. Rana Abdul-Hussein Al Dhahi, Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Political Science. She then presented a paper titled “The Role of Justice in Achieving and Promoting Human Rights Principles.” She emphasized that justice is a noble human value that contributes to the equality and the preservation of human dignity.

Prof. Dr. Hanaa Mohammed Hussein Ahmed Al-Timimi from the College of Islamic Sciences also presented a paper titled, “The Role of Justice in Achieving Human Rights.” She elucidated the ethical, religious, and intellectual dimensions of justice and its role in fostering a culture of tolerance and countering extremism.

Lec. Dr. Ali Hassan Huwaidi read a paper about the relationship between justice and human rights principles. He highlighted that justice serves as the essential moral and legal frameworks for protecting rights and upholding human dignity across societies.

Assist. Lec. Noor Nabih Jameel, a member of the Women’s Affairs Unit, delivered a paper explaining the concept of judicial justice and its role in promoting human rights. She stressed the importance of cultivating legal and social awareness of justice as a foundation for human and societal security.

Assist. Lec. Amani Mohammed Sabri, also a member of the Women’s Affairs Unit, presented a paper titled “Social Justice and Its Impact on Reducing Racial and Ethnic Discrimination” She highlighted the role of justice in confronting discrimination and establishing principles of equality and fairness within society.

Rich intellectual discussions were featured at the workshop, together with contributions from the audience, that underscored the importance of integrating principles of justice into academic and societal practices, while establishing human rights values into individual and institutional behavior.

The event concluded with a set of recommendations that focused on promoting a culture of justice within the university environment, empowering women, and supporting initiatives that aim at achieving equality and social peace. These efforts align with Sustainable Development Goal #16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
