In celebration of World Mental Health Day, which falls on October 10th of each year, the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad celebrated this occasion under the slogan “Mental Well-being: The Path to Creativity and Giving.” The event, with the participation of the College’s Human Rights Unit, affirmed its commitment to raising awareness of the importance of mental health and promoting a culture of caring for it as a fundamental pillar for building a balanced individual and a healthy society.
The College’s Deanship emphasized that attention to mental health is an essential aspect of supporting students, faculty, and administrative staff, enhancing their ability to be productive and creative and achieving a balance between the demands of academic and social life. It noted that mental well-being is no less important than physical health, complementing it and forming an integrated system for human well-being.
The College explained that celebrating this international day aligns with the World Health Organization’s approach, which emphasizes that “there is no health without mental health.” It also aims to highlight the need to break the barriers of silence surrounding mental disorders and promote a culture of support and understanding within the university community.
This activity is part of a series of awareness-raising initiatives adopted by the college as part of its social responsibility and in line with the third Sustainable Development Goal (Good Health and Well-being), which aims to ensure healthy lives for all and promote mental and physical well-being at all ages.
Thus, through the Human Rights Unit, the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad contributes to establishing a culture of mental health care as a fundamental path to achieving sustainable human development and building a university environment that encourages creativity and continuous giving.
