The Human Rights Unit at the College of Political Science – University of Baghdad celebrated the World Day for Decent Work, an annual global occasion that highlights the importance of ensuring a work environment based on social justice, equal opportunities, and respect for the fundamental rights of workers. This celebration comes as part of the college’s commitment to keeping pace with international events that promote the values of human dignity and justice, and that reinforce the principles of human rights in various aspects of life.
The Human Rights Unit affirmed that commemorating this day reflects the college’s deep belief in the role of decent work in achieving sustainable development by ensuring fair wages, humane working hours, and social protection for all workers, in addition to combating all forms of discrimination and exploitation in the labor market, and supporting workers in informal sectors — all of which contribute to building a more just and balanced society.
The college also emphasized that decent work is not limited to providing job opportunities only, but also includes safeguarding workers’ rights, improving working conditions, empowering women, promoting gender equality, and establishing a balance between professional and family life.
This activity comes within the college’s vision and mission to promote a culture of human rights and raise community awareness of its importance, through adopting initiatives that keep up with international developments and support national efforts to build a society that respects human dignity and safeguards the rights of all its members.
