Professor Dr. Muntasser Majeed Hameed and Assistant Lecturer Shujaa Mahmoud Khalaf, from the College of Political Science – University of Baghdad, participated in the International Scientific Conference organized by the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW) in Germany, in collaboration with Qatar University and several European research centers. The conference was held under the theme: “Empowering Sustainability: Sustainable Development Goals and Future Prospects in the Arab World.”

The two scholars jointly presented a scientific paper on the Prospects of Sustainable Development Goals in the Arab region while also focusing on developmental challenges and strategic opportunities that can advance sustainability approaches. The paper addressed two key Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, and Goal 13 – Climate Action, which elucidated the importance of sustainable water resource management in addressing scarcity and pollution crises, besides their impact on economic development. They also emphasized the need for national strategies to confront climate change and mitigate its effects, such as desertification, rising temperatures, and flooding, in aims of protecting the ecosystems and enhancing food and water security across the region.

The presentation reinforces the crucial role of Iraqi academic and research institutions in shaping future visions that are based on knowledge, innovation, and international partnerships.

This scholars’ participation is important in reflecting the College’s academic commitment to strengthen its international presence, besides its role in enriching global scientific discussion on sustainable development. In addition, it reinforces the University of Baghdad’s standing within the international research landscape to align with the rigorous academic standards upheld by leading global universities.
