In 1981, the United Nations General Assembly declared September 21 as the International Day of Peace, to serve as an annual occasion calling for a ceasefire and the rejection of violence. In 2001, it was reaffirmed that peace is the path toward development and human dignity.

Within this framework, the College of Political Science / University of Baghdad joined the world in celebrating this day, believing that peace is not merely the absence of conflicts, but the consolidation of the values of dialogue, tolerance, and respect for human rights, thereby contributing to building a safer and more stable future.

This activity reflects the College’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the goal related to “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions,” by promoting a culture of peace and strengthening the values of justice. It is also in line with the Iraqi National Security Strategy under the section “Strengthening Community Security and Protecting Diversity and Peaceful Coexistence,” which emphasizes the importance of addressing the root causes of conflicts and reinforcing safe coexistence among all components of society.
