The Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad, Professor Adel Abdul Hamza Al-Bedewi, chaired an expanded workshop on the National Security Strategy (Iraq First) 2025-2030. The workshop was attended by members of the strategy’s executive committee, assistant deans fo scientific affairs, and heads of planning departments and units within the university’s various colleges.
Dr. Manal Shaker Ali, Director of the Department of Studies and Planning at the University Presidency, also participated in the workshop. Mechanisms for implementing the strategy’s provisions and engaging academic institutions in supporting the state’s efforts in the areas of security and sustainable development were discussed.
In his speech, Dr. Al-Bedewi emphasized that the College of Political Science, in coordination with the University Presidency, plays a key role in translating the strategy from a theoretical framework to practical application through awareness-raising workshops and symposiums, and encouraging researchers and post-graduate students to prepare theses and dissertations that align with its goals and vision.
He also stressed the need to intensify cooperation among university colleges to overcome obstacles and activate scientific research, contributing to finding solutions to security, economic, and social challenges and achieving the objectives set forth in the national strategy.
The workshop concluded with a series of recommendations that emphasized the importance of promoting a culture of national security through academic institutions and ensuring the continuity of programs that support the implementation of the strategy, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions.
