On Sunday morning, August 24, 2025, the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad discussed Hiba Ali Taama’s master’s thesis, entitled:
“The Role of Renewable Energy Technology in International Competition: The United States and China – A Comparative Study.”

The discussion took place in Jihad al-Hasani Hall.
The discussion committee consisted of the following faculty members:
• Assistant Professor Yusra Mahdi Saleh – Chairman.
• Assistant Professor Haider Abdul Kazim – Member.
• Assistant Professor Sanad Walid Saeed – Member.
• Assistant Professor Ahmed Hussein Shahil – Member and Supervisor.
The thesis examined the dimensions of international competition in the field of renewable energy, through a comparison between the United States and the People’s Republic of China, in light of variables related to climate change, energy security crises, and sustainable development goals. The results showed that the rivalry between the two countries has reshaped the paths of international influence, particularly with regard to controlling supply chains for rare earth minerals, which are a cornerstone of the development of renewable energy technologies.
The examination committee approved the validity of the thesis and recommended that student Heba Ali Taama be awarded a Master’s degree in Political Science with a grade of “Excellent.”
