Assistant Teacher Baraa Amer Yahya , Head of the Governmental Communication and Mass Media Unit at the college of Political Sciences / University of Baghdad defended her PH.D dissertation Entitled :
“ Human Rights in Arabic TV Series and their Impact on Audience Awareness,”.
The discussion took place in the hall of Martyr Mohamed Baqer Al Sadr ( God bless his soul) in the college of Media and Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad , on Monday, June 23, 2025 .
The dissertation explored the development of human rights concepts at both local and international levels and examined how these concepts are reflected in dramatic texts and Arabic television productions. The study analyzed the hypothesis regarding the influence of such series on audience awareness and sought to identify the relationship between legal and dramatic messages and audience responses across cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions.
The researcher adopted a mixed-method approach that included both analytical and field survey components., three Arabic series were analyzed entitled “Poisoned Honey, Sons of Badiaa , and Al- Hashashin ( Assassins)”, beside implementing a field survey which contained (400) samples from the audience of the Capital city Baghdad.
The thesis achieved the following results:
• Arabic TV series have a significant influence on audience awareness of women’s and children’s rights.
• Drama serves as an important educational tool, despite its limited ability to independently effect comprehensive change.
• There is a need to increase dramatic focus on other human rights issues, such as the rights of persons with disabilities.

At the conclusion of the defense, the researcher was granted a PH.D in Media Philosophy with a grade of Very Good (High Distinction).
