The department of International Studies at the college of Political Science / University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium entitled “The End of UNAMI Mission and its Reflections on the Iraqi Foreign Policy” dated on Sunday, the fourth of May 2025.
Number of Instructors participated in this symposium including Asst. Prof. Dr. Awrad Muhamed Malik, Instr. Dr. Ali Hassan Huwaidi, and Instr. Dr. Ayat Nassir Jabir, in addition to the participation of instructors of the above mentioned department. This symposium is considered as one of the activities of the department for the current Academic Year 2024-2025 .
The Symposium shedded lights on the role of UNAMI mission in Iraq since its formation in 2003 in supporting the reshaping of the political system, oversighting elections, and supervising the issues of human rights, besides its role as an international balance tool after the American Occupation. The symposium also dealt with the political and strategic dimensions resulted from the intention of UN to end the Mission of UNAMI in 2025, and its reflection on Iraqi sovereignty and foreign policy, as well as the relation of Iraq with international society.
The symposium was concluded with affirming the point that ending the mission of UNAMI could be a starting point to establish more independent, and effective foreign policy, that enrolled within an integrated national project to enhance the image of Iraq in the international system, and to keep pace with the internal and external challenges through active diplomacy, and vitality of the ruling elite.
