Under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad, the Human Rights Unit, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a workshop entitled “Human Dignity is an Inherent Right in Law and Quranic Text.”
The workshop encompassed four topics. The first was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Hamida Ali Jaber, entitled “Human Dignity is an Inherent Right in Law,” the second topic was presented by Instructor Dr. Alia Abdul Amir Abdul Majid, entitled “Human Dignity as the Basis for Political Action: A Philosophical-Political Reading in Building Legal Systems,” the third topic was presented by Instructor Dr. Suha Hassan Sharhan, entitled “Human Dignity in Contemporary Islamic Political Thought,” and the final topic was presented by Instructor Dr. Shahlaa Redha Mahdi, entitled “The Violations of the State Organization on Human Dignity.”
The workshop aimed to educate the participants about the right to human dignity from both Quranic and legal perspectives, while raising awareness about the need to preserve and promote this fundamental principle in real life. In the closing remarks of the workshop, several recommendations evolved. Most notably, it emphasized that human dignity was a fundamental human right while also integrating it into education, religious discourse, and community dialogue. It also underscored the importance of cooperation between legal and religious institutions to ensure its protection.
