Third-classes evening students of the College of Political Science, at the University of Baghdad held a scientific symposium entitled “Cybersecurity: Challenges and Confrontation Strategies.” The symposium was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Dunya Jawad, and attended by Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Hesham Ezz El-Din Majeed.
During their presentation, the lecturers highlighted the importance of contemporary technological developments, as information has become one of the greatest resources that define development and progress. Knowledge is no longer limited to elites or official bodies, but has become available to everyone by virtue of what is known as the information revolution.
At the end of the symposium, several recommendations were highlighted to the attendees, most notably the establishment of a firewall to maintain effective cyber deterrence borders, as well as the investment of national resources in developing national capabilities to place cybersecurity in Iraqi hands and capabilities; in addition to securing the means and technologies of virtual deterrence to achieve parity with neighboring countries.
