Third-year students in the morning studies program at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Baghdad, organized a political science lecture entitled “Saint Lego Between the Negative and the Positive”. The lecture was sponsored by the Dean of the Faculty, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Al-Budaiwi, and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Ghassan Al-Saad.
The lecture included a review of the Saint Lego system and its history of usage in the world, as well as an examination of its significant advantages, such as reducing wasted votes and achieving higher electoral fairness than other systems. However, the lecture also addressed the drawbacks of the system, such as weakening the chances of independent votes, and prioritizing voting for lists rather than directly for the candidate. As a result, a set of questions and tests were presented to measure the students’ knowledge of the research orbit system.
Such lectures are held to train students, test their abilities, and assess their political knowledge using the principles of scientific research. The primary objective behind this approach is to actively acquire and promote information rather than passively receiving it. Furthermore, these lectures aim to strengthen the mechanisms of scientific dialogue on issues of national interest among college students, increase their understanding of problematic issues directly related to the Iraqi political system, and enhance their critical thinking and analytical skills.
