The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Political Science in the University of Baghdad held a workshop entitled “University Professor .. Tasks and Duties”, under the auspices of the Dean of the College, Asst. Prof. Dr. Adel Al-Budaiwi.
The workshop discussed a set of research papers that deal with the tasks and obligations of the university professor from various aspects. The first research paper, which was discussed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Dunia Jawad, (the role of University professor in national and social system of values) for tomorrow’s generations. As for the second research paper, which was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nahreen Jawad Sharqi, was entitled (Strengthening the University Professor’s Role: Intellectual Security for University Students: A Case Study), where it confirms that the university professor is one of the most important pillars on which the university depends in Building students’ personalities, correcting their behaviors, modifying their ideas and attitudes, and the successful and ideal tool for correcting the path and concepts. The third paper was by Asst. Prof. Fawzia khuda jointly with Inst. Dr. Aliah Abdulameer which was entitled (Institutions obligations of University Professor). It asserts that teaching staff are required to have a vital role and obligations, provide community services, and provide students with basic education armed with science and knowledge.
While the fourth research paper was presented by Asst. Prof. Basma Khalil Namiq and entitled (university professor between traditional and contemporary tasks), where it dealt with the concept of a university professor and his most prominent traditional and contemporary tasks. The fifth and final paper was by Dr. AlKawthar Abdel Bari Hussein, and entitled (necessary skills for successful teaching). The paper aims to enable the university professor to successfully perform his most important job, which is the job of teaching, by mastering a set of skills that help him perform that job effectively and achieve the desired goals of the educational process.
At the end of the workshop, a set of recommendations and proposals were formulated to improve the status of the university professor and the advancement of educational institutions.
