The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis titled “European Union Strategies for Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding in South America: Colombia and Venezuela (An Evaluative Study)” by the student “Furqan Adel Jabbar,” supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. “Hussein Mazhar Khalaf.”
The thesis outlined the causes of disturbances, crises, and conflicts that occurred in both Colombia and Venezuela. It explored—within the context of scientific analysis—how the European Union attempted to adopt various strategies to resolve the Colombian conflict and address the Venezuelan crisis while initiating peacebuilding processes in both cases. These strategies differed according to each situation, as the European Union employed different approaches in the cases of the Colombian conflict and the Venezuelan crisis, ranging from political, security, economic, and humanitarian strategies. However, the successes achieved by the European Union in the Colombian case were not replicated in the Venezuelan case due to several internal and external considerations and reasons, which the thesis elaborated on and analysed.
At the end of the viva, the researcher was awarded a master’s degree with “Excellent” distinction, wishing all our dear students success and achievement.
