The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized a lecture titled “The Role of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Shaping Foreign Policy,” under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Al-Badiwi.
During his administration of the lecture, the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Mayali, indicated that the College of Political Science hosted His Excellency the Ambassador and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Planning Affairs, along with the Dean of the Institute of Foreign Service, Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi, to discuss the goals of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the priorities of successful diplomats, the tasks of diplomatic missions, and the principles of diplomatic representation. He also mentioned the challenges facing the ministry and its future aspirations, including expanding diplomatic and consular services.
His Excellency Ambassador Al-Alawi, during his lecture, affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has four main priorities it seeks to achieve: enhancing bilateral relations with important countries for Iraq, starting from neighboring countries and Arab League states, as well as activating Iraq’s presence in Arab, regional, and international organizations, including the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the United Nations. He explained the ministry’s role in caring for citizens by protecting their rights, preserving their dignity, and providing better consular services domestically and abroad, while facilitating the process of obtaining and granting entry visas to citizens of other countries to improve the classification of the Iraqi passport.
At the end of the lecture, a dialogue session was opened for the attendees to answer their questions and inquiries about the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in shaping foreign policy.
