Political Thought Department at the College of Political Science/ University of Baghdad held a workshop entitled “Means for Political Empowerment of Iraqi Women,” under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Al-Budaiwi.
The workshop discussed a number of research papers, where the first paper, which was by Assistant Professor Dr. Abeer Siham Mahdi, was entitled “The Political Empowerment of Iraqi Women after 2003, a Study of Means and Challenges,” and the second paper was by Assistant Professor Fawzia Khuda Karam, which was entitled “The Concept of Women’s Empowerment In Iraqi Society,” and the last paper was by Assistant Instructor Maha Ali Hameed, which was entitled “Political Empowerment of Women: Obstacles and Solutions.”
At the end of the workshop, there was a number of recommendations, most notably emphasizing the necessity of activating national laws and legislations that give a role to women and encouraging their position in society, as well as increasing the proportion of women’s representation in public ministries and not limiting them to partisan ministries, and providing them with the opportunity to serve as prime ministers and executive ministers, with the necessity of emphasizing the role of the social factor, represented by the role of the family, education, and awareness, in raising and developing the levels of conviction and cumulative knowledge of women about the nature of their rights and freedom of decision-making at the societal level.
