The Faculty of Political Science at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis discussing the international conflicts in the South China Sea and their impact on security in East Asia after 2010, by the student Noura Jabr Aliwi.
The thesis dealt with international conflicts, which are among the important topics in the field of international studies, especially the topic is related to the South China Sea and the impact of conflicts on the security of East Asia, in addition to the importance this sea poses to the countries bordering it and the countries that do not have a view but are looking for consolidation their Influence and control on it, and this sea is considered an important sea for important international powers that do not seem willing to concede their influence to other competitors, as the map of this sea and the surrounding area makes the situation in it more complex than any other sea. Because of the large number of countries overlooking it and the difference in their political and economic size and then the impact that it entails, in addition to the difference in their political systems and their external orientations. In addition, these reasons control to a large extent the claims of those countries in the South China Sea, which increases the conflict in this sea, as the management of this great complexity in this sea and the need to establish stability and reduce the ongoing conflicts in it requires finding solutions and arrangements that would It limits the conflicts whose effects have reached East Asia, so it was necessary to have institutional arrangements at the regional level through which dialogue and negotiations are resorted to in order to build sustainable peace.
Therefore, this study seeks to examine the importance of the South China Sea as a sea located in a vital area politically, economically, and commercially, as well as what this importance constitutes in terms of space in the perceptions of countries, whether the countries bordering it or those seeking to find a foothold for it in order to preserve its influence. The consequences of this importance in all its details are situations that change with the change in the level of stability caused by the ongoing conflicts in this sea, and the consequences of those conflicts on the security of East Asia.
At the end of the discussion, the researcher was awarded a master’s degree with a grade of “very good”. We wish all our students success in their academic and practical lives.
