The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad discussed the Master’s thesis titled ‘The Intellectual Contribution of the English School in the Theory of International Relations’ by student Amna Talib Abdul Amir.

The thesis clarified that theories are analytical tools that aim to interpret reality and predict the future. There are various theories and schools within the field of International Relations in Political Science, such as Idealism, Realism, Liberalism, English School, Marxism, and others. Many thinkers and scholars have worked on these theories, and they differ in their approaches to the nature of international relations between different units and actors. These theories have evolved with the changing nature of these relations, shifts in power dynamics, and the existing factors of international politics. The English School is indeed one of the most important schools in International Relations theories. It focuses on studying and interpreting international behavior by considering historical, cultural, and social factors that shape a state’s identity and influence its behavior. The English School emphasizes that the state is the primary representative of national interests, and international relations are influenced by the relative power of states and their strategic, economic, military, and cultural position. War and peace are outcomes of state behavior and interactions in the international system. So, this study aims to discuss the major theories: realism, liberalism, and constructivism. It will present their perspectives regarding the international community. Additionally, it seeks to understand the impact of these theories on the development of the English school. Moreover, we will explore the context in which these theories emerged and how they have evolved over time.

And at the end of the discussion, the researcher was awarded a Master’s degree with a “very good” grade. We wish all our dear students success and prosperity in their academic and professional lives.
