The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad discussed a Dissertation entitled “Civil Society and its Impact on Security Policies in Iraq After 2014”
By the student “Amani Muhammad Sabry”
The dissertation dealt with an important topic that links two main variables: civil society (independent) and security policies (dependent). Civil society is considered one of the informal institutions of the political regime that has faced many threats and challenges. From this standpoint, the study focused on the nature and structure of civil society first, in order to elaborate on civil society, and avoid cognitive deficiency, to understand their role in proposing security policies that are compatible with the challenges of this stage, considering that civil society is a comprehensive and complex security pillar upon which the state is based.
The study also examined the challenges and obstacles facing security policies by official and unofficial parties before and after the year (2014). The study concluded that the obstacles are complex and intertwined among political, social, security, economic, as well as cultural obstacles, that have confounded the security system of the Iraqi state. Finally, the study attempted to explain the solutions and treatments adopted by the political regime through a package of public policies, including security ones, after the entry of ISIS gangs into Iraq through the parties of civil society, and the extent of decision-maker accepting visions, plans, and alternatives that are put forward through initiatives from civil society. The study reached important and influential results on the political regime in general and security policy in particular, the most prominent of which was providing participatory opportunities for informal institutions in decision-making to cooperate in achieving high levels of societal stability as a means to the success of security policies.
At the end of the viva, the researcher was awarded a doctorate degree with a grade of “very good.” Wishing all our dear students good luck and success in their academic and professional lives.
