The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis entitled “Moderation in Contemporary Islamic Political Discourse.” by the student “Tiba Jaseb Hizam”

The thesis tackles the concept of moderation, which is one of the most important and contemporary concepts in Islam, because it is closely related to the aspects of life, individuals and groups, due to the societies’ need for balance, and moderation due to the challenges and obstacles which those societies face that stood in the way of Islamic revival. Moderation is among those calls that the Islamic political discourse called for, as a treatment for one of the most important causes of extremism, tyranny and violence, and it represents security and stability in any society. Work must be done to consolidate the concept of moderation by spreading it within the educational curricula and activating the role of institutions and agencies in consolidating its foundations and principles.

The moderate Islamic discourse calls for moderation because its reference is the Holy Qur’an and the purified Sunnah of the Prophet. There is no place in it for extremism or negligence, because it expresses the just and fair nation who are endowed with virtues, but rather calls for the spread of peace and security in any society making balance between individual’s interests and group interests, in the sense that it is a renaissance discourse that aims at the renaissance of man and the development of his life for the better.

At the end of the viva, the researcher was awarded a master’s degree with a grade of “very good” wishing all our students success in their academic and practical lives
