University of Baghdad topped the Iraqi universities in the Webometrics classification, as it ranked first in Iraq among 122 Iraqi universities and ranked 41 among Arab universities out of 1365 Arab universities. Baghdad University topped 3% among Arab Universities and ranked 1571 out of 12002 global universities which means it is among the top 13% globally. This progress comes as a result of the studied plan prepared by the Rectorship of the University of Baghdad and followed it up in detail daily. The most important steps to enhance the university’s rank in the classification were the launch of the digital repository of the University of Baghdad, which provided all the researches of the university’s journals to be available directly and for free. The second step was following up the accounts of professors and postgraduate students in the scientific search portals, spreading the culture of scientific research, using scientific research tools, creating LinkedIn pages for all profiles, updating all profile sites in English language, and a set of other measures in the short and long terms.
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a researches organization of the Supreme Council of Scientific Research in Spain, recognized as the largest Spanish public research body.
