The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, organized an awareness workshop entitled “The Dangers of Drugs” on Monday, October 20, 2025, in Alhuriya Hall. This workshop is part of the college’s efforts to enhance health and legal awareness among students.
The workshop, presented by a number of representatives from the Ministry of Interior and a group of college professors, focused on identifying common types of drugs, their health, psychological, and social effects, their methods of spread, and the methods of luring youth, in addition to early warning indicators on campus. It also reviewed the roles of families, students, and faculty, in coordination with security agencies, in prevention and reporting, as well as the legal frameworks related to criminalization and penalties. Time was allocated for questions and brief awareness materials were provided.
The workshop recommended launching a semi-annual awareness campaign within the college, providing a confidential email and telephone line for consultation and reporting, coordinating with university clinics to support cases, and including a short awareness section at the beginning of each semester. This initiative is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being, and Goal 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions.
