The Continuing Education Unit of the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Human Rights Division of the University Presidency, organized a workshop entitled “The Steps Taken by the Iraqi State to Realize the Principles of Human Rights After 2003,” under the patronage of the College Dean.

Dr. Haider Al-Jash‘ami, Head of the Continuing Education Unit, noted that the workshop was delivered by Dr. Ja‘far Al-Sadiq Mahdi from the Center for Strategic Studies and Research and Assistant Lecturer Hasnaa Muhammad Mahdi from the College of Political Science. He explained that the workshop highlighted Iraq’s contributions in the field of human rights, discussed the legislative guarantees for human rights in Iraq, and reviewed Iraq’s initiatives with other Arab states in this domain through accession to human-rights treaties and conventions.

The workshop also examined the role of the Independent High Commission for Human Rights and its objectives in protecting and promoting respect for human rights in Iraq, as well as safeguarding the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the floor was opened for attendees to ask questions and raise any inquiries regarding the steps the Iraqi state has taken to realize the principles of human rights.ِ
