The International Studies Department in the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad held a workshop entitled “Empowering Women in Light of the Challenges of Sustainable Development: A Case Study of Iraq,” sponsored by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Al-Budaiwi.
The workshop included reading a number of research papers by the participating professors, in addition to expressing a set of relevant questions and substantive interventions. The workshop reached a number of recommendations, the most prominent of which is that empowering Iraqi women in the field of sustainable development is not only governed by the support they received through charters and legislation, but also, it is manifested in two factors: the first is removing all kinds of obstacles (political, economic, social, cultural, and technological) that hinder their participation in achieving sustainable development goals; and the second is providing facilities and taking basic measures that support women’s participation, whether at the level of developing capabilities or employing those capabilities in the field of sustainable development.
