The branch of political thought was established as a precise specialization in the academic year 1997-1998 at the master’s and doctoral levels, and includes 26 teaching staff, including (1) member at the rank of professor, (9) member at the rank of assistant professor, (15) member at the rank of teacher, and (1) member at the rank of assistant instructor.
It is managed by the head of the branch and the branch council, which includes (7) instructors, and consists of several committees: the Scientific Committee, the Graduate Studies Committee, the Committee for Matching Amendments, the Scientific Safety Committee, and the Scientific Curriculum Committee, in addition to sub-committees such as :the electronic extraction committee, and the paper extraction committees.
The Department of Political Thought envisions itself as a leading academic environment in higher education and scientific research, striving to advance political thought and link theoretical knowledge with political practice. The Department aims to enhance the College’s and the University’s role in achieving research excellence and community service in line with the requirements of scientific and societal development.
The Department of Political Thought seeks to prepare a generation of researchers and thinkers who possess critical analytical tools and profound knowledge of the methodologies of political thought. Through an academic environment that fosters creativity and scientific research, the Department contributes to building intellectual awareness that supports political decision-making and strengthens the values of dialogue, openness, and diversity.
- Develop research capabilities in the fields of classical and contemporary political thought, and encourage comparative and analytical studies.
- Connect academic education with political reality through the analysis of systems, ideas, and public policies.
- Promote critical thinking and academic dialogue among students and researchers to reinforce democratic and pluralistic values.
- Contribute to the development of political and intellectual discourse in society through seminars and scientific research.
- Build academic and institutional partnerships with specialized departments and research bodies at the local and international levels.
- Utilize research outcomes to serve society and decision-makers in intellectual and political fields.
It depends on the joint work that carried out by the joint contributions of the branch, which consists of:
1-Branch Council: It consists of all members of the faculty in the branch and is chaired by the chief of branch. It is concerned with discussing and developing matters that related with the branch itself. And contributing in formulating the branch’s public policy which related with scientific affairs and scientific research.
2-Head of the branch: He works to achieve the higher objectives and policies in the university and college, and who exercises his powers and scientific and administrative duties according to the law.
3-Rapporteur of the branch: He acts on behalf of the chief of branch in some of the powers that he delegates to him, or in absence condition of the chief of branch, to be instead of him, and assisting the chief of branch by supervising over regulation of all scientific and administrative affairs of the branch.
4-branch’s secretariat: It follows up the implementation of the instructions of the chief of branch and rapporteur. It receives e- mails and presents them to the chief of branch, and follows up also on incoming and outgoing mail and preparing the branch’s answers to it. Moreover, Informing the faculty members of the mail that related to them, following up on what is required of them, keeping and archiving files on box file and electronically too, then organizing all of them, and carrying out all of that by writing, or printing and copying work. In addition to that, organizing and preparing everything that related with the teaching staff, scientifically and administratively, and postgraduate students, including minutes of discussions, files and orders.
