About the College

The Council of the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad is the highest academic and administrative body in the college. It is responsible for formulating its policy in line with the general policy of the university and guiding its academic and administrative progress in line with its scientific and developmental mission. The Council’s powers are distributed across several main areas, most notably: educational policies, scientific research, administrative and financial affairs, external relations and international cooperation, performance monitoring and quality assurance.

Council Members

The Council includes:

  • The Dean of the College (Chairman of the Council).
  • The Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.
  • The Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs.
  • The Heads of Academic Departments.
  • A representative of the Academics Syndicate.
  • The Secretary of the College Council (Council Rapporteur).

 

College Council Minutes for the Academic Year 2025-2026

Minutes of the first session

Date of Meeting: Wednesday, September 17, 2025

Main Decisions:

  1. Recommendation for approval of the academic promotions of the college’s teaching staff.
  2. Recommendation for approval of the scientific research project plans for the academic year 2025–2026.
  3. Recommendation for approval of the community study submitted by one of the college’s faculty members.
  4. Recommendation for approval to grant Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Political Science to a number of postgraduate students.
  5. Approval of the registration of the college’s 2026 conference entitled:

“Iraqi National Security and Regional Stability in the Middle East.”

  1. Approval of the subjects for the competitive examination for all academic departments in the college for the academic year 2026–2027.
  2. Ratification of the results of the second-round examinations (first and second semesters) for postgraduate students for the academic year 2024–2025.
  3. Approval of the formation of thesis/dissertation defense committees for postgraduate students.
  4. Approval of the proposed research titles for Ph.D. students in the academic departments, along with the determination of the comprehensive examination references.

Dates: September 21-29, 2025
Key Decisions:

Approval of the proposed curriculum for the Scientific Research Methodology course for postgraduate students (Master’s and PhD) for the 2025/2026 academic year, as submitted by the designated committee.

Approval of administrative assignment s of the faculty members holding the rank of Assistant Lecturer in the academic departments.

Approval of the formation of examination committees for postgraduate students.

Ruling on the preliminary results for all levels for the first and second semesters/second session of the 2024-2025 academic year.

Date: October 15, 2025
Key Decisions:

Recommendation to approve faculty promotions.

Recommendation to approve the research proposals for our faculty members for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Recommendation to approve the establishment of a professional diploma program in foreign service and diplomacy. Recommendation to approve the awarding of PhD and Master’s degrees in Political Science to a number of graduate students in our college.

Recommendation to approve the transfer of students from morning to evening studies.

Recommendation to approve the vision, mission, and objectives of the academic departments for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Approval to form examination committees for graduate students.
Approval of the first deferral requests for a group of graduate students.
Approval to register thesis titles for a group of graduate students with supervision.
Approval to complete the procedures for issuing graduation orders for undergraduate students for the 2024-2025 academic year, for both morning and evening studies.

Minutes of the Fourth Session

Date: October 29, 2025
Key Decisions:
Recommendation to approve the addition of research papers submitted by faculty members to the scientific output.
Recommendation to approve the awarding of PhD and Master’s degrees in Political Science to a number of graduate students in our college.

Recommendation to approve the transfer of students from morning to evening studies.

Recommendation to approve the reduction of tuition fees for students receiving social welfare.

Approval to authorize the Dean to form the Central Examination Committee, which will administer examinations for undergraduate students (morning and evening) for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Approval to authorize the Dean to appoint the sub-examination and auditing committees for all departments and levels, which will administer examinations for undergraduate students (morning and evening) and graduate students for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Approval of the performance evaluation report for the 2023/2024 academic year.

Approval to increase the student absence rate in accordance with the regulations and guidelines, subject to verification of its validity.
