The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), held its central scientific conference at the University of Baghdad’s faculty level, entitled “Combating Intellectual Terrorism and Its Implications for Strengthening Community Security.” The conference was supervised by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Albdeewy, and his assistants: for scientific affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Mayali, and for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Hisham Ezz Al-Din Majeed. The conference was attended by the Commander of the Diyala Operations of the Popular Mobilization Forces, Talib Al-Moussawi, and academic and political figures. Dean of the College and Chairman of the Conference Preparatory Committee, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Albdeewy, noted in his speech that the conference was held under the slogan “Enhancing Intellectual Security is the Best Path to Achieving Sustainable Security.” He clarified that the conference title currently reflects the deep awareness and understanding of the challenges confronted by our societies, and the critical importance of addressing them with an integrated scientific and practical approach. He explained that such an initiative comes at a sensitive time and in an urgent circumstance of a multiplying societal challenges, especially with the escalating danger of intellectual terrorism, which is the first spark for the spread of extremism and terrorism in all its material and moral forms. Simultaneously, he emphasized that academic-security cooperation is a fundamental necessity and a key requirement. Security institutions cannot do without the scientific vision provided by academic institutions, nor can academic institutions do without the practical expertise provided by security institutions; explaining that building bridges of cooperation between the two institutions is the best path to achieve comprehensive and sustainable addressing of these issues. The conference included two sessions during which the participating professors discussed their research papers, as well as assigning time for dialogue and discussion regarding each paper presented during the conference. In conclusion, letters of appreciation were distributed to the participating professors in the conference by the Head of the Political Systems Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Drewel Aljuboury.
