The Department of Political Systems in the College of Political Science /University of Baghdad held a symposium entitled “ The Effect of Ideological Extremism on the National Unity “. Head of the department Professor Assistant Dr. Ali Al-Jubouri mentioned that the symposium focused on the negative reflections of the Ideological Extremism on the national unity and the peaceful living among the component of the united civil society, he added that Extremism is considered as one of the most significant problems that faces societies, for being one of the oldest phenomenon which emerged in accordance with the appearance of religions on earth which may be appeared once and disappeared once. This phenomena is considered as a threat to the unity and coherence of communities which will drag them to the danger of chaos and divisions, the thing that threats the civil community peace. It also destroys the structures and stability of theses communities. He mentioned that the ideological Extremism can be defined as the idea of taking a strict situation upon certain idea or an issue. In conclusion the symposium delivered many recommendations, the most significant one is enhancing the education to contain the values of forgiveness, respect, and citizenship to fight the extremism ideas, besides improving the economic and social conditions of individuals to decrease the motives behind extremism.
