Under the auspices of the Dean’s office, Ibn Sina Unit, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit and the Career Development Centre, organized a scientific symposium entitled “National Institutions and Their Role in the Field of Human Rights.”
The symposium highlighted the vital role of national institutions, particularly the High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq, which operates under the legal mandate established by Law No. 53 of 2008, as per Article 102 of the permanent Iraqi Constitution. The symposium elucidated several key tasks of the Commission, including adjusting the national legislation to the international agreements endorsed by Iraq, which primarily aims at preparing periodic, parallel, and emergency reports while forming investigative teams and visiting prisons and detention centers.
Dr. Iyad Malik Abdul Majeed, chairman of the Ibn Sina e-Learning Unit, pointed out that the symposium underscored successful experiences and best practices while enhancing the communication that promotes the role of national organizations in protecting human rights. This, in turn, contributes to building a society reinforced by justice and mutual respect.
