Under the auspices of the Dean Dr. Adel Al-Budaiwi, this initiative was conducted by the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Political Science, University of Baghdad, in partnership with the Center for Educational and Psychological Research.
Assistant Professor Basma Khalil Namiq, head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, elucidated the workshop’s objective in addressing the growing concern about drug usage and its multifaceted ramifications in Iraq. She explained that the consequences of drug abuse are not limited to health and psychological domains, but also entail pivotal social implications that influence the values and behaviors of individuals. Furthermore, the workshop enclosed discussions about economic and security-related threats that emerged from individuals involved in substance abuse and addiction.
The workshop came out with a myriad of recommendations to address this urgent scourge. The suggested national strategy underlined the value of educational awareness in fighting the issues associated with drug spread, as well as enhancing detection and reporting processes through workshops, seminars, and field visits that are coordinated by relevant security agencies across multiple ministries, particularly the Ministries of Education and Higher Education, which are particularly prone to the advantages of drug dealers
