The Government Media and Communications Unit at the College of Political Science, University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Directorate of Labor and Vocational Training, Labor Resource Center, and Migrant Workers held an awareness session entitled “Legal Migration and the Dangers of Irregular Migration and Supporting Returnees from Migratory Countries,” under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Al-Badiwi.
During the hosting by the Media Officer, Haider Al-Ramahi, of the consultants at the Labor Resource Center and Migrant Workers, Noor Abdul Nabi Jawad and Maryam Hameed Abbas, they explained the definition of the Labor Resource Center and Migrant Workers and migration terminology, as well as the risks of irregular migration and the warning against the dangers of falling victim to human trafficking. Additionally, they presented reintegration services for returnees, whether economic or social support.
The consultants provided a comprehensive overview of the Labor Resource Center and Migrant Workers (MRC) in Baghdad within the “Capacity Partnerships and Information Access for Sustainable Reintegration of Returnees in Iraq (CAIR II)” project. They clarified that the purpose of this session is to raise awareness among youth to make informed decisions regarding migration, reduce irregular migration, and find solutions to the problems faced by migrant youth to Europe.
The session concluded with several recommendations, including the development of informative posters about the risks and consequences of irregular migration, as well as coordinating the timing of sessions to align with student attendance due to the importance of the topic.
At the end of the session, a dialogue was opened for the attendees to answer their questions and inquiries regarding legal and irregular migration and how to support returnees from migrant countries.
