The Department of International Studies at the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad held a workshop entitled “General Measures for Implementing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child: Obstacles and Solutions,” under the chairmanship of the head of the department, Dr. Ahmed Hussein Shihail, and under the supervision of the college dean, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Al-Badawi.
The researchers pointed out that the United Nations Convention is the legal framework aimed at protecting children’s rights and ensuring their comprehensive development. However, the implementation of this convention faces many challenges and obstacles that pose an increasing threat to the lives and rights of children, including conflicts, armed conflicts, and climate change.
The workshop concluded with a number of recommendations, including the necessity of enhancing funding and international cooperation, as well as strengthening awareness and education programs on children’s rights and the need to implement general measures.
The workshop was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Nahreen Jawad Sharqi, Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Jabbar Ismail Ibrahim, Assistant Professor Dr. Orad Mohammed Malik, Assistant Professor Fawzia Khadakram Aziz, Dr. Ayat Nasser Jaber, Dr. Maha Shukr Mahmoud, Assistant Shaimaa Mohammed Nasser, and Assistant Dalia Abdel Salam.
