The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad discussed the Master’s thesis entitled “Employing Multi-Track Diplomacy in Conflict Resolution: Selected Models” by the student “Ali Hamad Shnawi” under the supervision of Professor Dr. “Hala Khalid Hameed.” The thesis explained that multi-track diplomacy is a modern and important topic in the field of international relations studies. Diplomacy has been practiced since ancient times within its traditional framework, but it was not defined as a term until the end of the seventeenth century. Due to the different schools of thought interested in diplomatic affairs, there have been varying definitions of its concept; however, they generally agreed that diplomacy is nothing but the science and art of managing international relations to serve the goals and interests of states.
The thesis reached several conclusions, indicating that contemporary conflicts are more deadly, damaging, complex, and diverse, evolving with the development of the international reality. Their causes have increased, their methods have diversified, and their sources and resources have multiplied, expanding their scope beyond the borders of a single state, whether internal or external. They have extended spatially and temporally across borders, broadening their impact beyond their regional scope. This has made settlement interventions more intricate and complex than they were in the past.
At the end of the discussion, the researcher was awarded a Master’s degree with a grade of “Very Good High,” wishing all our dear students success and prosperity.
