The Educational Counseling Unit and the Women’s Empowerment Coordinator at the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad held a symposium entitled “Environmental Risks and Climate Challenges,” under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Political Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Al-Budaiwi, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Assistant Professor Basma Al-Awqati, during her management of the symposium, referred to the participation of ten research papers, where the first participation was by the representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr. Muhammad Muwafaq Makki, where he presented a paper entitled “The Impact of Environmental Risks and Extreme Weather Phenomena on Youth” through which he dealt with the concept of environmental pollution and the types of environmental risks Facing the world. As for the second participation, it was for a member of the Guidance Committee, Assistant Professor Dr. Maysa Latif, where she presented a paper entitled “Sport and the Environment”, in which she dealt with the role of tournaments in sending awareness messages to the environment, as well as the most important controls and standards and what is related to sports facilities and tools and dealing with them in a sustainable, environmentally friendly and carbon-neutral manner.
The third participation was by Dr. Saba Farouk, in which she dealt with the most prominent laws that dealt with violators of the rules of a clean environment and the role of the law issued in 2009 to protecting the environment. As for the fourth participation, it was by the Instructor, Areej Saad, entitled “Art and the Environment,” which dealt with the definition of environmental art and the messages that this art carries to preserve the environment. And the last paper in the symposium was by Dr. Al-Kawthar Abdel-Bari, through which she dealt with environmental security in Iraq.
At the end of the symposium, the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Al-Budaiwi, and his collaborators for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Mayali, and for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Hisham Ezz El-Din Majeed, praised this activity and the importance of environmental issues. Through the symposium the dean of the college invited the attendees to prepare themselves for the next international conference of the college which will be held in November on the topic of climate risks and its impact on Iraq.
