The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled “Government Performance and Peacebuilding in Iraq after 2005.”
By the student “Zahraa Abdel Razzaq Jabr”
The message explained that government performance contributes to building peace by achieving human security indicators, which is one of the most important values of peacebuilding, as it aims to protect the individual from want, deprivation, and violence and provide quality of life for the individual. Government performance also contributes to establishing a state of stability in society by achieving the legitimacy of achievement linked to performance. The government aims to meet the humanitarian needs of individuals and obtain the satisfaction of the governed, as one of the most important aspects of stability in society is the presence of legitimacy for the ruling political system. Hence, the importance of the legitimacy of achievement linked to government performance emerges over the legitimacy of constitutionalism, one of which is elections. Since Iraq is a country emerging from conflict and wars, and transformed into a democratic state after the change of the dictatorial political regime, a new phase began in its history towards democracy and peace building. Therefore, the study specialized in identifying the governmental performance of successive elected Iraqi governments after the year 2005 AD until 2019 AD in achieving security indicators. Humanitarian aid that contributes to building peace and obtaining the satisfaction of the governed. The indicators include providing security, justice, and public services and lifting them out of poverty and unemployment with a strong economy. We concluded that there is a deficiency in government performance in meeting human security indicators, and the reason is due to the presence of obstacles that have hindered the work of governments.
At the end of the discussion, the researcher was awarded a master’s degree with a grade of “very good, high.” We wish all our dear students good luck and success in their academic and professional lives.
