The Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Political Science \u2013 University of Baghdad organized an awareness workshop entitled \u201cThe Role of the Individual in Achieving Active Political Participation and Building Political Awareness\u201d on the morning of Wednesday, November 5, 2025, held in the undergraduate study halls with the participation of a group of students. The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Sajad Hassan Fazaa, with the participation of Dr. Hussein Hamza Al-Yasiri, Director of the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit, and Assistant Lecturer Maha Abdul Kareem Zainal, a member of the unit.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to raise youth awareness and highlight the importance of participation in political life as an essential component of building democratic societies. The speakers emphasized that change begins with the individual\u2019s awareness of their rights and duties, and that political participation is not limited to elites or political actors, but is rather a shared right and responsibility of every member of society. The discussion also addressed the concept of political awareness as the foundation of active participation, emphasizing the need to distinguish between reliable information and rumors or emotional politicization\u2014enhancing one\u2019s ability to make well-informed decisions based on critical thinking and analysis.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The workshop further discussed the roles individuals can play in enhancing their awareness and contributing to the political sphere through balanced engagement with knowledge sources, the positive use of social media platforms to express opinions and share accurate information, and the importance of mastering dialogue and persuasion skills as a basis for constructive communication with others. The session witnessed an interactive discussion between students and lecturers, during which participants exchanged ideas and perspectives on the significance of involvement in decision-making processes, creating a stimulating and fruitful dialogue environment.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The workshop concluded with recommendations aimed at promoting youth engagement in public life, including the need to follow credible news sources and verify information before sharing it, participate in elections and public activities as part of conscious citizenship, and engage in volunteer work within civil society organizations. The session also emphasized the responsibility of educational institutions to support a culture of political awareness by integrating civic education topics into student programs and activities, and encouraging political entities to establish real and effective channels of communication with young people.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This workshop aligns with the vision of the College of Political Science to strengthen its role as a knowledge-producing and socially influential institution, placing students at the core of the educational process as the nucleus of a generation that will shape the future. It is also consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, through its focus on enhancing community participation and contributing to the building of a conscious and responsible society.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The College of Political Science reaffirms its commitment to continuing the organization of scientific activities that integrate academic learning with practical application, contributing to the preparation of students capable of performing their social roles with awareness, competence, and responsibility.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
