On Sunday, January 22, 2025, the College of Political Science \u2013 University of Baghdad held a Ph.D. dissertation defense titled:
\n\u201cThe Role of research centers in Shaping the Strategies of International Powers: A Comparative Study,\u201d<\/span>
\nsubmitted by Ph.D. candidate Raad Nasser Jassim. The defense took place in Al-Hurriya Hall at the college, in the presence of a number of professors, researchers, and scholars interested in political and international affairs.<\/p>\n

The examining committee consisted of:

\n\u2022 Prof. Dr. Saad Obaid Alwan \u2013 University of Baghdad \/ College of Political Science \u2013 Member
\n\u2022 Asst. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ibrahim Salman \u2013 Center for Strategic and International Studies \/ University of Baghdad \u2013 Member
\n\u2022 Asst. Prof. Dr. Wijdan Faleh Hassan \u2013 College of Political Science \/ University of Maysan \u2013 Member
\n\u2022 Asst. Prof. Dr. Ourad Mohammed Malik \u2013 University of Baghdad \/ College of Political Science \u2013 Member
\n\u2022 Prof. Dr. Hussein Mazhar Khalaf \u2013 University of Baghdad \/ College of Political Science \u2013 Member and Supervisor<\/p>\n

The dissertation highlighted the growing role of think tanks in formulating international strategies and policies, particularly through their direct influence on decision-making processes. It examined the institutional independence of these centers, their freedom in thought and funding, and their significant impact on policymakers and public opinion\u2014especially in democratic and developed countries.
\nThe study also explored the historical emergence and evolution of think tanks, the criteria used for their classification, and their key functions in guiding international policy agendas.
\nComprising four chapters, this dissertation defense is part of the college\u2019s ongoing efforts to support high-level academic research and deepen scholarly understanding of political thought and international relations. The candidate was awarded a grade of Very Good.<\/p>\n
