The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Political Science, University of Baghdad, organized a symposium entitled “Mechanisms for Combating Poverty in Iraq.” Underscoring the complexity of poverty, Lecturer Dr. Haider Ali Abdullah, the chairman of the unit, elucidated the multidimensional factors that significantly affect poverty in Iraq, such as economic crises, unemployment, corruption, and armed conflicts. Several poverty reduction measures were adopted by government bodies to address these overburdening challenges, including social support programs, economic reform initiatives, and public service enhancements, while also partnering with international organizations to obtain funding for developmental programs and humanitarian aid.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In the closing remarks of the symposium, several key recommendations regarding poverty combat were discussed, these include fostering economic diversification, generating job opportunities, improving the social protection system, combating corruption, and strengthening infrastructure and public services. Attendees were given the opportunity to comprehensively discuss the problems and proposed solutions to the poverty situation in Iraq.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
